Sir Scared Alot runs to the Village.

Sir Scared Alot, a knight whose bravery was inversely proportional to the size of any given threat, gripped his sword hilt, knuckles white. Before him stretched the Whispering Woods, a place whispered to be the haunt of creatures so terrifying, they made grown men soil their chainmail. He’d faced down a goblin once (from a safe distance, with a trebuchet), but this… this was different. This was nature.

A rustle in the undergrowth sent a shiver down his spine. Could it be the dreaded… Baby Kitten? Sir Scared Alot had heard tales of these miniature monstrosities, their claws like tiny daggers, their purrs a siren song lulling the unwary into a false sense of security before the inevitable pounce. He squinted. Yes! Two glowing eyes, reflecting the dappled sunlight. It was close! He raised his shield, a small, round thing that barely covered his left knee.

Then, a flash of vibrant color. A flutter of wings. The Aweful Butterfly! Sir Scared Alot nearly dropped his sword. He’d read of these winged demons in the Bestiary of Beasly the Brave. Their wings, deceptively delicate, could whip up gusts of wind strong enough to knock a knight off his horse (or, in Sir Scared Alot’s case, his slightly wobbly pony). And their proboscis! Capable, it was said, of sucking the very courage from a man’s heart!

The butterfly, a magnificent specimen of orange and black, landed on a nearby flower. Sir Scared Alot held his breath. It was… beautiful. He’d never seen anything quite like it. He lowered his shield, just a fraction. Perhaps… perhaps the tales were exaggerated? Perhaps the Baby Kitten was just a… a slightly larger mouse? He took a tentative step forward. The butterfly twitched its antennae. Sir Scared Alot yelped and leaped behind a particularly large fern. He wasn’t taking any chances. Beauty was only skin deep, after all. And underneath that beautiful exterior lurked certain doom. He just knew it.
